What we do as locksmiths is to pull apart the lock to re-key or change the pins inside the barrel itself, so that your old key doesn’t work any more. This is a cost effective way of doing this without having to replace the entire lock itself (which is another option). You can also buy DIY re-keying kits and resources, but obviously I’d recommend you draw on a professional if you’re not sure what you’re doing (don’t mess around with security).
